Newark, Delaware — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Women's Bowling Team headed to upstate Delaware this past weekend and came home with another trophy for their mantle. The Lady Hawks took first place in the tournament with 8,286 pins, 255 more than second place Howard University.

The Lady Hawk's MaryEtta Lewis took second in pin average rolling 206.33 pins per game in the six games she competed in. She was less than five pins behind the first place competitor. Freshman Jessica Worsley averaged 176.5 pins to finish 11th in the field. Sandra Maresca rolled the high game for UMES rolling a 274.

UMES continued its winning, taking not only the tournament but posting an 8-2 record in the two-day event. The tournament started slow as the Hawks fell to MEAC foe Howard University (940-833) in game one, but they rebounded to defeat Delaware State (973-741), St. Peter's College (960-731), Morgan State (889-877), and Coppin State (930-713).

On day two, the tournament featured the Baker Game format where each bowler rolls one frame through the first five and then repeats itself with the fifth bowler rolling the 10th frame. UMES, the owner of the only perfect Baker game in NCAA history, posted some solid Baker Game scores with five separate games over 200. In three game series, the Hawks defeated Delaware State (620-413), Howard (567-556), Morgan State (538-528), and Coppin State (525-465). They fell to St. Peter's College 499-539.

The tournament moves the Lady Hawk's record to 18-2 overall and 10-1 in the MEAC. The Hawk's NCAA record, vital to an NCAA Championship berth, now stands at 17-2.

UMES will bowl again this weekend on the 9th and 10th in Hampton, VA at a MEAC Northern Division meet.
