Hyattsville, Maryland — The Lady Hawks cruised to eight more wins this past weekend at a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) northern division bowling match-up hosted by Howard University. With the eight wins The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) improves its record to 16-2 on the season.
UMES opened the event on Saturday, (Nov. 11) with five head to head matches. The Hawks knocked off Morgan State (940-909), Coppin State (920-690), Howard (1096-799), Delaware State (999-943) and Hampton (999-866).
Freshman sensation Marion Singleton led the way again for UMES rolling a high game of 249 against Howard. She also had the highest total pinfall of the day, tallying 1,069 pins over the five games. She added three more games over 200 as well, a 201, 221 and a 214. Overall she tied for the second highest average of the event with a 214. Laura Zanrucha also bowled well with two games over 200, a 257 and a 222. Over just four games Zanrucha totaled 857 pins and had an average of 214, tying Singleton's mark.
Senior Christine King, coming off an impressive outing last week, also bowled well with a high game of 201 and a 190 average.
Megan Raymond owned the high game of the event however, with an impressive 266. she also notched a 234, a 195 and a 181. Her average was the event's best, a 219. Jamie Culbreth bowled in three games notching a 167, 190 and a 195.
Four other Hawks also saw action at the event with Michelle Wallace, Jennifer Davis, Kristie Minnis and Ilena Dickson all getting time on the lanes.
On day two of the event the Hawks bowled Baker matches and picked up wins over Howard (835-788), Coppin State (753-540) and Hampton (753-647). Their lone loss came in the first match of the day to Morgan State, 805-715.
UMES improves to 16-2 on the season and bowls again this weekend in the Hawk Classic, a 19-team field featuring some of the nation's best teams, including defending National Champions Fairleigh Dickinson. UMES hosts that event at Millsboro Lanes in Millsboro, Del. The action begins on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 10 a.m. and continues Sunday at 9 a.m.
