LADY HAWK BOWLING KEEPS ROLLING, TALLY EIGHT MORE WINS

Jan. 22, 2007

COLUMBIA, Maryland — The Lady Hawks cruised to eight more wins this past weekend at a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) northern division bowling match-up hosted by Morgan State University. With the eight wins, The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) improves its record to 62-13 on the season.

UMES opened the event on Saturday (Jan. 20) with five head to head matches. The Hawks knocked off Delaware State (829-778), Morgan State (937-820), Coppin State (807-592), Howard (886-858) and Hampton (888-782)

Eight Hawks saw action on the day in the head-to-head format while only two scores reached the 200 mark. The tough sport shot that was laid down on the lanes saw low numbers but even though the Hawks steadily bowled around 800 it was always enough to top the MEAC competition.

The lone high games were Megan Raymond with a 211 against Morgan State and Jessica Worsley with a 218. Seven other scores did all hit at least 190 with Ashley Golden rolling a 193 and 190, Christine King a 192 and 191 and Raymond also rolling a 191 and 193.

Raymond also held the highest average of all UMES bowlers with a 190.6 for the event.

On day two of the event, the Hawks bowled Baker matches and picked up wins over Morgan State (797-675), Howard (807-696) and Coppin State. The Coppin State match had no score due to the Eagles bowling without enough members.

The lone loss came to Delaware State by just four pins, 807-803.

The Hawks hold the third highest winning percentage in the country and are currently ranked fifth in the National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) poll. The next take the lanes in the Capital Classic on Feb. 10-11 in Dover, Delaware.
