MEN'S TENNIS GOES 0-4 AT MEAC ROUNDUP

ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, FLA. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) men's tennis team finished up a disappointing trip to the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Round-Up by going 0-4 in the three day event.

The Hawks lost to Norfolk State (NSU), 7-0 on the final day of the event but had a good outing against the Spartans nonetheless.

Kishan Sudusinghe was downed 6-2, 6-1 at the #1 spot while NSU's Roman Del Castillo defeated #2 seed Marcus Robinson 6-1, 6-3. Buwaneka Galpoththawela and Harold Fowler each fell 6-0, 6-0 at the third and fourth spots while William Ntirenganya fell 6-0, 6-1 at the #5 spot. Andrew Graham dropped the sixth spot 6-1, 6-0.

The doubles team of Sudusinghe and Robinson fell 8-3 at the #1 spot while Galpoththawela and Fowler and Ntirenganya and Graham each dropped their matchups 8-0.

UMES dropped a pair of matches to Florida A&M (FAMU) and South Carolina State (SCSU), each by the score of 7-0 on the first day of the tournament. In the contest against FAMU, Sudusinghe and Robinson each fell 6-0, 6-0 in the #1 and #2 spots, respectively. Christopher Clarke and Galpoththawela fell 6-0, 6-0 at number three and four, while Fowler and Nitrenganya each dropped the final two singles matches by the score of 6-0, 6-0.

Sudusinghe and Robinson lost in doubles competition 8-1 in the #1 spot while Clarke and Fowler fell 8-0 at #2. Galpoththawela and Graham were downed 8-0 in the final doubles match.

In the decision against South Carolina State, Sudusinge fell 6-0, 6-1 in the number one spot while Robinson and Galpoththawela each fell 6-0, 6-0 in the #2 and #3 positions. Fowler, Ntirenganya and Graham dropped their respective contests 8-0.

The doubles team of Sudusinghe and Robinson and Graham and Ntirenganya fell 8-0 in the first and third spots, respectively, while Galpoththawela and Fowler lost 8-1 in the number two spot.

UMES lost a 7-0 decision to Bethune-Cookman (BCC) on the second day of the Roundup. Robinson was competitive at the number 2 spot but fell 6-1, 6-2 to BCC's Jerome Ward. Sudusinghe, Galpoththawela, Fowler and Ntirenganya all fell 6-0, 6-0 while Graham was downed 6-1, 6-0 at the #6 spot.

The three doubles team each fell by the score of 8-0.

The Hawk men lost all five matches in the MEAC Round-Up and fall to 0-5 on the season. They return to action next week when they host Indiana Purdue-Fort Wayne (IPFW) on March 3.
