GREENSBORO, N.C. - The top-seeded Lady Hawks were upset in the third round of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship on day two of the event by Delaware State University (DSU), 4-0, dropping the Hawks into the loser's bracket and forcing them to win three in a row tomorrow in order to claim the MEAC title.
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), winners of the last three conference titles, are in unfamiliar territory as of late, having rolled through the winner's bracket in the last several years and straight to the championship. Now however, they have to bowl a semi-final match-up against sixth-seeded Florida A&M, who knocked off fifth-seeded Bethune-Cookman in game seven in their final match of the day. If UMES can top the Rattlers in a match tomorrow at 9:50 a.m., then they must top DSU twice in the double elimination bracket in order to win the crown. The entire tournament in a best of seven Baker game format.
The match will be televised in a tape-delayed format by ESPNU on April 2. It will begin at 11:45 a.m.
In the DSU match, the Hawks fell by scores of 190-150, 201-140, 215-197, 226-198. DSU won matches in the day over Bethune-Cookman and Florida A&M before topping UMES.
Earlier in the day UMES topped eighth-seeded North Carolina A&T State 4-2 (155-150, 173-210, 190-125, 157-160, 181-172, 191-158) and then beat fifth-seeded Hampton by the same score, 4-2 (224-163, 148-188, 223-160, 165-214, 203-179, 231-153).
