COLUMBIA, Maryland — Maria Rodriguez (Ibague Tolima, Colombia) tallied a pinfall of 1,133 over five games to average a 226.6 and lead UMES to a 9-1 mark in this past weekend's Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Northern Division match.
The Hawks got solid outings from Rodriguez, T'nia Falbo (Greensburg, Pa.), Martha Perez (Bogota, Colombia) and Megan Buja (Rockford, Ill.) as they posted nine wins and a loss on the weekend to run their conference record to 19-1 and to 41-7 overall.
The event started off rocky for UMES as they fell to Hampton 840-831 with no one posting a 200 game. However, they got it together the rest of the way, topping No. 16 Morgan State, Coppin State, Howard and No. 7 Delaware State. They posted a team high 1161 in the DSU win and got 200 games from all five Hawks.
In all, they tallied 12 200 games with Rodriguez posting four, including a 278 in the DSU win and a 256 against Coppin State. Perez tallied a 255 vs. DSU while Kristina Frahm (Oswego, Ill.) had a pair, including a 235 over Morgan State. Falbo had three 200 games, posting a 245 against Howard while Buja also had a pair with a 238 against Coppin State.
UMES rolled through the Baker games, posting wins over Morgan State, Hampton, Howard, Delaware State and Coppin State. Their high game was an 824 against DSU and they averaged over a 787 in the five matches.
The Hawks now take a break for the winter holidays, not returning to action until January 14-16 at the Mid-Winter Classic in Little Rock, Ark.
