WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The University of Maryland Eastern Shore kicked off their conference schedule with a road tilt against the Bison of Howard University, falling 5-2 in the match. The Hawks stand at 1-6 on the season and 0-1 in MEAC play.

The Hawks got both points by default in singles play in the five and six spots, where Osvaldo Rivera (Christiansted, U.S. V.I.) and Malcolm Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) were set to play respectively.

Dorian Thomas (Mitchellville, Md.) fought a tough singles match in the three-spot with George Diggs 2-6, 1-6. The Hawks also got a good showing from Emmash Sudsinghe (Colombo, Sri Lanka) in the second spot, however he fell to Devard Wharton 1-6, 1-6.

Thomas and Johnson later teamed up as a doubles team against Eric Chavous and Bogdan Dzakovic, nearly getting a victory but falling just short 6-8 in the pro set. The Hawks dropped all three doubles matches.

The Hawks will look to regroup at home for the first of a three-match homestand against Morgan State on Sunday.
