HAWKS BOWL WELL, NEBRASKA BOWLS BETTER, TOP UMES 1159-1044

April 14, 2011

TAYLOR, Michigan — With the oil breaking down even more, Nebraska made the right adjustments and posted huge numbers to top the Hawks 1159-1104 despite a 229 and 225 performance from senior All-Americans Maria Rodriguez and Kristina Frahm respectively.

While the senior pair bested their Husker counterparts by 27 combined pins, Nebraska made adjustments that led to big pinfall numbers in the first through three slots, getting 240, 235 and 257 respectively.

The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) wasn't bad themselves, getting a 204 from Paula Vilas in the lead-off spot and a 200 from T'nia Falbo bowling in the third slot. The only off game came from the combination of Martha Perez and Anggie Ramirez in the two hole; as they were trying different combinations to put up pins. They combined for a 186. Those first three slots bested UMES by 142 pins, with the third position accounting for 57 of those.

"I don't think anyone else would have beaten us that game," said Assistant Coach Doug Dukes. "Nebraska bowled really well and sometimes all you can do is appreciate how well they bowled."

UMES falls to 2-2 in the standings, in a four-way tie for third place as Nebraska and Fairleigh Dickinson are both 3-1. Kutztown got in the win column with a victory over Central Missouri, putting them at 1-3 and in a tie for seventh with Vanderbilt.

Ironically the Hawks have recorded the highest pinfall to date with a 4,318, 110 better than first place Nebraska. The NCAA used to seed based on pinfall from 2004-2009 but started basing it on win/loss record in 2010.

UMES will take on that same Commodore team to start the afternoon at approximately 3:40 p.m.
