JOHNSON, SIMMONS PROPEL HAWKS IN LOSS AT LOYOLA

Final Stats

BALTIMORE, Md. - Sophomores Malcolm Johnson (Silver Spring, Md.) and Enjoli Simmons (Baltimore, Md.) each won four games against Loyola University on Sunday, but it was not enough, as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore men's tennis team dropped a 6-0 decision to the Greyhounds. The women's team fell by the same 6-0 result to Loyola.

The men's team (0-14) was swept in both singles and doubles play. Johnson opened with a 6-2, 6-0 loss at No. 1 singles, before Costica was blanked at No. 2. The Hawks concluded singles by winning two games at No. 3 and No. 4. The doubles teams each dropped 8-2 decisions.

The women's team (0-12) provided much of the same results as the men.

Senior Solana McMillan (Teaneck, N.J.) lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 and junior Shamara McKenzie (Neptune, N.J.) was defeated at No. 2, 6-1, 6-0. Simmons was fantastic at No. 3, where she won four games but fell 6-2, 6-2.

UMES was swept in its final two singles matches, as well as in both doubles contests.

The Hawks look to get back in the win column when they travel to Hampton University on Saturday, April 7 at 1 p.m. The contest features four matches as each team will play HU twice.
