Dec. 9, 2014 NORFOLK, Va. - University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) senior All-American Mariana Alvarado (Leon, Mexico) was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Women's Bowler of the Week, the league announced today.
Alvarado led the entire field at the MEAC Northern Division #2 meet last weekend in Millsboro, Del. She aided the Hawks to a perfect 10-0 weekend, running their record to 20-0 overall. She tallied a 1,145 pinfall to average a solid 229 in five traditional matches. She rolled a high game of the weekend with a 262 in the 1,105-634 win over Coppin State.
Alvarado had a 60% strike percentage for the weekend and was 100% on single-pin spares (23-23). She closed 21 of 25 frames in the 10th frame with a mark on the second day. Alvarado was also in anchor position against Coppin State, when UMES set a school record for pin fall in a five-game Baker match with an 1106-656 win.
This selection marks the third time in four weekends that a UMES bowler has won the MEAC award this season.
