HAWKS BOWLING PICKED TO WIN MEAC NORTH

Oct. 13, 2015

PRINCESS ANNE, Md.-The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) bowling team, five-time defending MEAC Northern Division and three-time defending MEAC Champions, were predicted to win the Northern Division again in 2016, as announced by the conference today.

Additionally, senior Thashaina Seraus (Oranjestad, Aruba) was picked as one of the five members of the All-MEAC Preseason Team

Seraus' effort in 2015 led her to a First Team All America selection by the National Tenpin Coaches Association. She competed in 69 individual games, averaging a 210.88 per ten frames with a high of 267 at both the FDU New Jersey Jamboree and the Mid-Winter Invitational in Arkansas. In terms of Baker matches, Seraus competed in 68 of them, including four matches at the MEAC Championships, where the Hawks won the 2015 crown over Norfolk State.

As a team, MEAC coaches and SID's voted the Hawks to be the best in the Northern Division with a total of 117 points and 13 out of 20 first place votes, stemming from a 29-1 conference record from a year ago despite only returning two players. Those two players, Seraus and sophomore Melanie Copey (Ontario, N.Y.), will be joined by eight newcomers from five states and two international countries.

After the Hawks, Delaware State was predicted second with 93 points, followed by Howard (67), Morgan State (57) and Coppin State (48). In the Southern Division, defending USBC Champions North Carolina A&T were predicted to finish first.

UMES opens the season this weekend in Dayton, Ohio at the Orange and Black Tournament hosted by Pikeville University. This particular tournament will not count officially towards NCAA statistics-that part of the season will begin with the FDU New Jersey Jamboree beginning on October 30th.
