HAWKS HEAD TO CHARM CITY TO OPEN MEAC PLAY

Nov. 13, 2015

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The young Hawks bowling team has made many positive steps in the first two tournaments, leading to respectable fifth and sixth place finishes. Now the team looks to see how they will place against their conference competition with the first MEAC Northern Division Tournament. Hosted by Coppin State University, the two day affair will take place at AMF Lanes in Towson Saturday and Sunday.

Along with the host Coppin State and UMES, three other schools-Morgan State, Howard, and Delaware State will also be participating.

The Hornets will likely be the Hawks' fiercest challenger as the Route 13 rivals are coming off fourth place finishes at the New Jersey Jamboree and the Kutztown Fall Classic. In fact, Delaware State finished ahead of the Hawks at Fairleigh Dickinson two weeks ago.

For the Hawks, the team has had some great individual successes. High points include a terrific first day of individuals where the team scored over 1,000 combined pins in four of five matches, and a 300 game delivered by sophomore Melanie Copey (Ontario, N.Y.). Both Copey and senior Thashaina Seraus (Oranjestad, Aruba) have earned MEAC distinctions so far this week.

However, the team is hoping to catch up on its Baker play. In six tries this season, the team has won three, all at the UPike Orange and Black. The team struggled in New Jersey, going 0-2 in Baker matches.
