HAWKS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY PERFECT

TOWSON, Maryland —  On it's first day of conference play, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore women's bowling team took advantage of a smaller Northern Division in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference to open perfect with a 4-0 mark.

The Hawks rolled through four team games, taking out Coppin State (1004-807), Morgan State (961-827), Howard (1020-965) and Delaware State (1002-936).

Thashaina Seraus (Oranjestad, Aruba) led the way for the Hawks and the entire field. All four games were over 200 (227, 206, 226 & 223) to total 882 and average a 220.5 on the day. Hawks earned the next two spots as well as Haley Cummings (Huber Heights, Ohio) tallied 855 pins with three games over 200 (233, 204 & 247) to average a 208.5. Teammate Jacqueline Rhoda (Portage, Ind.) also was over 200 in each game (203, 204, 215 & 212) to tally a 934 and average a 208.5. They would finish second and third respectively. Sophomore Melanie Copey (Ontario, N.Y.) finished in the Top 10 in average with a 189.

UMES was the only team to tally a match over 1,000 and they did it three of the four matches. After day one, Delaware State trails the Hawks with a 3-1 record and 3,858 pins, 31 pins behind UMES's 3,987. Howard finished 2-2, Morgan State was 1-3 and Coppin State 0-4, more than 1,000 pins behind the Hawks.

UMES is back on the lanes Sunday, November 14, facing Morgan State, Delaware State, Coppin State and Howard in four-game Baker matches.
