March 31, 2015

Box Score

PETERSBURG, Va.  -- In their toughest matchup on the season, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men's Tennis Team ran into a hot North Carolina Central (NCCU) squad at the Virginia State University (VSU) Tennis Complex. The club fell to the Eagles, 7-0, and dropped to 0-3 overall.

Entering the match, NCCU won three-out-of-last five bouts. On the other hand, the Hawks came in fresh off their season openers against conference foes Coppin State and Norfolk State.

In doubles play, the Eagles won both matches, 8-0, respectively. In singles play, the Hawks could not keep up with North Carolina Central as each player lost in straight sets. Newcomer Michael Cha (Seoul, Korea) served as the squad's No. 1 and scored a point, but NCCU's Kert Kilumets defeated Cha (6-0, 6-1).

This Friday (04/03), the team goes to Virginia Beach, Va. as they will take on the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins in another nonconference match. First-serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
