August Receives Two More Awards

Jan. 26, 2016

NORFOLK, Va.- For the second straight week, Hawks freshman Danielle August (Mililani, Hawaii) received recognition for her high level of play. On Tuesday, the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) named her the conference's Bowler of the Week. Additionally, she earned the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Association (ECAC) Rookie of the Week honors.

After winning the ECAC Bowler of the Week award last week, August rolled the momentum into the Kutztown Invitational this past weekend. In Sunday individuals she led her team with a 1,072 series over five games. It started with a 254 in a win over Valparaiso, helping to keep her average above the 200 mark, ultimately ending with a 214.4 average.

Her efforts led August to be named to the Second All-Tournament Team after placing eighth in the field.

August is the third Hawk to win the MEAC's award. Senior Thashaina Seraus (Oranjestad, Aruba) and sophomore Melanie Copey (Ontario, N.Y.) are listed among the previous winners.

Seraus has also previously won the ECAC Bowler of the Week, and freshman Jacqueline Rhoda (Portage, Ind.) has been named the ECAC Rookie of the Week.

The Hawks will continue their season in Texas at the Prairie View A&M Invitational this coming weekend.
