Johnson, Seraus named UMES PRMC Athlete of the Week

March 15, 2016

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomore bowler Jalesa Johnson (Delmar, Delaware) and senior bowler Thashaina Seraus (Oranjestad, Aruba) were named the Maryland Eastern Shore Peninsula Regional Medical Center Athletes of the Week for the week ending March 12th.

Bowling in the fourth slot for most of the day on March 12th, Johnson and the Lady Hawks registered a total pinfall of 6,314 over a grueling 32 game stretch, averaging just a couple pins fewer than 200 per game. That pinfall was the highest out of all 60 teams competing in sectionals across the country after the first day.

Seraus bowled in all 32 games in the anchor position as the Hawks took first place this past weekend (Mar. 11th and 12th) in the United States Bowling Congress Sectional in Las Vegas, Nevada. After three days the team finished with a total pinfall of 12,202. She finished 24th out of 66th in individuals on Friday, March 10th.

The Hawks bowling team finished third in their sectional, earning qualification to the USBC Intercollegiate Team Championships in Wichita, Kansas this April.

Johnson, Seraus and the Lady Hawks will travel to Smyrna, Tennessee for the Columbia 300 Music City Classic March 18th-20th before heading to Norfolk, Va. for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Championship on March 25th-27th.
