SMYRNA, Tennessee — After starting Day 1 at the Music City Classic (March 17-19) about as good as it could get, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore followed it up with a 3-1 record on Day 2, to end up with
The Hawks (72-35, 19-5 MEAC) began the Day with a 923-873 loss to Arkansas State, but then rebounded to win their next three matches sandwiched around a bye.
Their second match of the day brought a 1025-815 win against Jackson State before they topped Maryville 857-809.
After a bye, Eastern Shore finished up the day with a 915-872 win against Central Missouri.
The Hawks averaged a 183.56 as a team in the five traditional matches and were in ninth place (8-1) headed into bracket play.
Graduate student Thashaina Seraus (Oranjestad, Aruba) led the Hawks individually (41st overall) with a 190.80 average over five games.
Sophomore Danielle August (Mililani, Hawaii) was second (61st overall) with a 182.80, also over five matches.
Freshman Brigitte Jacobs (Freeport, Illinois) had the day's top single game with a 234.
Play picks up again on Sunday with bracket play when The Shore will start the day with a match against Adelphi University and will see the Hawks compete in three total Baker best-of-seven matches.
Eastern Shore will follow up Music City next week with the MEAC Championships (March 24-26) and then hope to be heading to the NCAA Championships (April 13-15) before a date already secured at the USBC Championships (April 20-22).
