PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore posted a 4-1 record in traditional play on the second day of competition at the James Brown Invitational, at AMF Lanes in Towson, Maryland and remain in first place.
The Hawks (51-31, 8-2 MEAC) got averages of 200 or better from three different players over five traditional games, but struggled to find consistency throughout the lineup.
The squad opened with a 944-826 win against Morgan State, then topped
Coppin State (944-876) before falling to Saint Francis Brooklyn by a 989-940 score.
Eastern Shore rebounded to finish out the day with wins against
Fairleigh Dickinson (945-939) and Mount St. Mary's (1,044-842).
Junior
Cayla Hicks (Salem, Virginia) led the way for The Shore with a five-game average of 207.4 and a high game of 247 against The Mount.
Paulina Torres (Ponce, Puerto Rico) averaged a 200.2 and rolled a 211 against the Mountaineers. Junior
Brigitte Jacobs (Freeport, Illinois) averaged a 200 with a high on the day of 220 against St. Francis.
Freshman
Chloe Skurzynski (Carlisle, Pennsylvania) was the other Hawks who rolled all five games, coming in at a 178.2 average with a high of 195 against
Coppin.
Classmate
Isabel Hughes (Raleigh, North Carolina) bowled games four and five and put up scores of 173 and 209.
Alexandra Hernandez (
Maricaibo, Venezuela) bowled a 195 against
Coppin.
The Hawks will compete in bracket play on Sunday (Feb. 17).
