CROYTON, Pennsylvania — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore dropped a pair of bracket matches on the final day of competition at the Northeast Classic before picking up a late victory to finish in ninth place.
The Hawks (59-19, 12-0 MEAC) fell to Youngstown State 4-0 to open the morning of competition, then fell 4.5-2.5 to Fairleigh Dickinson.
"It was a terrible day," Hawks coach
Kayla Bandy said. "In match 1, we just didn't show up to bowl and we were throwing the ball everywhere. In match 2, we were better aligned to strike, but our spare game was atrocious."
The Shore got it together to take the final match of the day 4-2 against Adelphi.
"In match 3, we converted our spares and patiently waited for the strikes to come," Bandy said. "Overall, I am really proud of the way
Isabel Hughes (Raleigh, North Carolina) and
Paulina Torres (Ponce, Puerto Rico) stepped up this weekend. The two of them along with
Brooke Roberts (Port Orange, Florida) threw the ball incredible all weekend. It's now time to get back home work on some team dynamics and get better on the lanes!"
Eastern Shore will return to the lanes on Feb. 2 at the start of the Prairie View A&M Invitational at Bowl ITRC in Arlington, Texas.
