2020 Hawks Hall of Fame Induction is Feb. 28

Join Maryland Eastern Shore Athletics for ‘Bowties & Tennis Shoes’!

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. — Homecoming 2020 at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore will bring another Hall of Fame induction for Hawk Athletics and with it another fun-filled induction ceremony and reunion.  The event starts Feb. 28 at 6 p.m. with a reception followed by dinner and the induction ceremony.  Tickets are now on sale here.

This year Maryland Eastern Shore is inducting the first Women's Bowling team to join the hall, the 2003-04 squad which made the first-ever NCAA Championships, paving the way for three future NCAA titles. The squad also recorded the first-ever perfect Baker game in NCAA history.  In addition, five individuals will be inducted, including Basketball standout Marvin Blye, MEAC Player of the Year from volleyball Christina Estebane, highly-decorated Track & Field athletes Merrecia James and Kimani Kirton as well as former public address announcer Pat "Big Pat" Doughty as a contributor.  A quick check of the record books and Hawk lure, and it's obvious the places they hold among the Hawk legends.

The induction of those five individuals and one team brings the total up to 227 members in the Hawk Hall of Fame.  The Hall of Fame captain and NFL Hall of Famer Art Shell is expected to be on hand to personally induct the class.  Former journalist and alumn "Bill" Horatio Jones will serve as emcee.  The event will take place on the campus of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in Student Services Center Ballroom.

The evening will also feature the family of Hall of Fame Coach Cappy Anderson, who will be on hand to help re-dedicate Cappy Anderson Stadium after recent renovations to the running track and infield.

Tickets to the Hall of Fame induction and concert are $60 per person or a table of 8 is available for $400. There are reduced rates for Hall of Fame members.  All can be purchased online or those interested can call Associate Director of Athletics, G. Stan Bradley at 410-651-6499 or email him at gsbradley@umes.edu to make a ticket purchase or ask any additional questions.  Call for Hall of Fame discounts.

This year's Hall of Fame gala will feature the theme of Bow Ties and Tennis Shoes, an athletically formal event, and serves as a fundraiser for Hawk Athletics.  Ladies are welcomed to wear tennis shoes as well and pearls as opposed to bow ties.  Using no state funding to operate intercollegiate athletics, ticket sales for this event go directly to support the current Hawk student-athletes.

The Hall of Fame class will also be honored the following day at the annual Homecoming Basketball Game, when the women and men take on Delaware State University at 2 & 4 p.m.
