PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore finished up bracket play at the James Brown Invitational Sunday in seventh place after going 1-2 on the event's final day.
The Hawks (47-39, 3-5 MEAC) dropped morning matches to host and National Tenpin Coaches Association No. 18 Morgan State (0-4) and Saint Francis University (2-4) before picking up a 4-1 win against Coppin State in the day's finale.
On Saturday, The Shore finished 3-2 in Traditional play, while senior Brooke Roberts (Port Orange, Florida) finished second overall at the event earning All-Tournament honors with a five-game average of 218.
No. 16 Eastern Shore started off the morning a little rough with a 992-895 loss to No. 11 Duquesne.
Roberts posted a 269 and Driver chipped in a 232 on the way to a 1051-870 win against Chestnut Hill College in the second match. They next topped No. 14 Delaware State 987-887 with Torres (225), Roberts (220) and Ross (211) putting up the big games. Match 3 was a 1045-859 win against Fayetteville State powered by Ross' 246.
In the final match of Day 2, The Hawks fell 1044-969.
Junior Elizabeth Ross (Schenectady, New York) finished 14th overall with a five-game average of 207.8, while graduate student Paulina Torres (Ponce, Puerto Rico) put up a 199.0 average over five games. Sophomore Brooke Driver (Woodbridge, Virginia) averaged 205.5 over four games.
