PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore suffered a tough 4-2 loss to start things out in bracket play on Sunday versus National Tenpin Coaches Association No. 21 Lincoln Memorial.
The Hawks (61-43, 11-5) rebounded to stop former Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference foe Florida A&M 4-1 in the second match and then gathered a measure of revenge on the Railsplitters with a tight 4-2 win.
"Even the second match win wasn't that good of a match for us," Hawks coach Roger Petrin said. "If this was the beginning of the year, we'd be OK with this outcome. But this time of year, my expectations are much higher. I feel like although we picked up eight wins, there were probably one or two matches that we actually earned. That's good for our overall record which is now over 60% and that's a pretty big number, but we need to bowl better."
The Hawks had one of their worst spare shooting performances of the year and were back to practice on Monday to work on their consistency. This is an off week to prepare for the Music City Classic (March 18-20) and the MEAC Tournament (March 25-27).
Brooke Roberts (Port Orange, Florida) will be the lone Hawk active this week as she travels to the USBC singles sectionals.
