WEST ORANGE, New Jersey - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks fell on the road to the Pirate of Seton Hall on Saturday, 78-54.

With Saturday's loss, UMES is now 4-4 overall while SHU improved to 5-3 on the year.

The Hawks jumped out to a great start thanks to a 12-0 scoring run sparked by three makes from beyond the arc by guard Mya Thomas. Leading by as many as eight in the opening quarter, six points off the bench by Ariana Seawell helped UMES maintain a 19-17 edge heading into the second period.

Seton Hall settled into the game in the second quarter while the Hawk shooting cooled off. UMES was held to just nine points in the period to the Pirates 15 points as Seton Hall took a 32-28 advantage into the break.

Third quarter turnover struggles combined with just five field goals for the Hawks allowed the Pirates to extend their lead to as many as 15. Seton Hall shot 56.1% from the field in the third frame and took a 13 lead into the final 10 minutes of play.

SHU opened the fourth quarter by making their first six shots of the quarter as the Pirate lead ballooned to 23 by the 6:06 mark. SHU remained in control for the remainder of the contest ending the UMES winning streak at three-games.

UMES committed 24 turnovers in the loss while Seton Hall used its size to outscore the Hawks, 40-22, in the paint. Seton Hall finished the game shooting over 54% from the field while UMES shooters combined for a just under 40%.

Seawell led the Hawk efforts with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Thomas finished the afternoon with 14 points. No other Hawk had more than six in the contest.
