PRINCESS ANNE, Maryland — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore will compete in the second Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference meets of the season on Saturday and Sunday (Feb. 18-19). The MEAC No. 2, hosted by North Carolina A&T State in Greensboro North Carolina
The two MEAC meets add a bit of variety to the schedule as the format is nothing like a normal weekend competition. First, it's just two days. Second, during the first meet the teams competed in eight Baker matches where the Hawks finished 6-2.
This time around, the format will be all Traditional matches.
"Unfortunately, that is what we are really good at right now," Petrin said with a laugh. "I say that because it's good to be good at something, but on a typical weekend I'd rather be better at Baker. This weekend it's good to feel that we are going into our comfort level. Really though right now we are comfortable in general as a team, so after this weekend Baker or Traditional it feels like we are heading in the right direction regardless."
Following last weekend's victory at the James Brown the Hawks (54-29, 6-2 MEAC) it's a dangerous time for the squad as it's easy to have a letdown after that kind of success, but Petrin isn't worried about that.
"There was a setback after we won at Colonial Lanes, but we had a two-week break," Petrin said. "That was also the first event of the year. I think we are in a good place. We set good habits at the start of this semester and I think we are going to continue doing those habits.
"Every event is a new event and you have got to go in with a new mindset every time you go and compete. It's hard to forget bad events and it's hard to forget good events. But I think we are in a place where we are ready to continue to show the consistency to compete at a high level. This feels different than last semester and it feels like we are trending toward what we envision ourselves to be."
Bowling will begin at 9:55 on Saturday at Triad Lanes with five traditional matches and then at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday with four more.
