SUMMARY:Â
With two weeks remaining until the MEAC Indoor Championships, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore track and field team competed at this weekend's Rutgers University Invitational at the Armory in New York. The UMES women had four athletes meet IC4A Qualifying standards while the Hawk men had seven hit ECAC qualifying standards.
Chloe Lucas and
Malachi Aiken highlighted the UMES performances as Lucas won the 400 meter race while Aiken had a win in the triple jump.

WOMEN'S OVERALL PERFORMANCE
Chloe Lucas was impressive for the Hawks with a first place finish in the 400 meter race with a time of 55.81 followed by her teammate
Mackenzi Evans (57.35). Lucas also notched a second place finish in the 200 meter dash (24.89). Both of Lucas' times hit IC4A/ECAC qualifying standards. UMES also had qualifying times in the long jump and triple jump.
Jonysha Prucien finished fifth in the triple jump (12.01m) while
Faithlyn Irving came in sixth in the long jump (5.86m). The Hawk 4 x 200 meter relay team comprised of
Malea Sharps,
Kiyana Smith,
Adekansola Adewami and
Mar'Shay Robinson came in first place with a pace of 1:41.52.

MEN'S OVERALL PERFORMANCE

Malachi Aiken continued his consistent indoor season in the jumping events with a first and second place finish. He won the triple jump with a qualifying mark of 15.66m. He hit another qualifying mark with a second place leap of 7.25m in the long jump. The Hawks had a trio of sprinters hit IC4A/ECAC qualifying times in the 200 meter dash as
Andie Kollie finished in third (21.85),
Caleb Goslee was sixth (22.13) and
Kennis Welch was eight (22.18). In the 60 meter dash, Kollie ran another qualifying time of 6.88 for a third place result while teammate Radjae Reid was fourth (6.89).

UP NEXT
Members of the UMES women's and men's track team will travel to Spartanburg, South Carolina for the Clemson University Tiger Paw Invitational on Friday. The team will head to Virginia Beach, Virginia the following week for the MEAC Indoor Championships.
