Hawks Headed to Pittsburgh For NCAA Regional

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- After claiming its 11th MEAC Championship, the University of Maryland Eastern Shore bowling team learned where they will begin its quest for its fourth NCAA title. The Hawks will travel to Pittsburgh for the NCAA Regional April 4-6.

Head coach Roger Petrin and the Hawks will face an at-large selection Duquesne in their first round matchup at the AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes in the Steel City on Friday, April 5 at 9 am.

No. 1 and regional top seed Jacksonville State, winner of the Conference USA tournament, will take on Mercyhurst, winners of the East Coast Conference title. The winners of the first two matchups and the losers of the first two will face each other later that day at 3 p.m.

The NCAA Championship will feature an 18-team double-elimination tournament. Automatic qualification was given to 10 conferences, including the MEAC, while eight other teams will be selected with at-large bids.

The 18 teams will be split into four regions — two sites with four teams each, two sites with five teams each. Regionals will take place from Thursday, April 4, to Saturday, April 6. The four regional winners will advance to the championship finals at Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park, Michigan from Friday, April 12, to Saturday, April 13. Each match will consist of a best-of-three format.
