Hawk triple jumpers soar at MEAC Championships

SUMMARY
 
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawks had ten men finish in the top ten while the women had seven top ten finishers including UMES triple jumpers Malachi Aiken and Faithlyn Irving 's second place finishes.

HAWK HIGHLIGHTS
 
The Hawk men's program recorded ten top-10 finishes throughout the week and finished with a team score of 41 total points. Malachi Aiken proved to be one the top overall jumpers at the MEAC Championships with a second place finish in the triple jump (15.76m) and a fourth place performance in the long jump with a leap of 7.45m. Both of Aiken's marks are season bests while his triple jump length sets a new UMES school record.
 
Kareem Kamandego also set a new school mark in the pole vault with a height of 4.32m while earning a third place finish.
 
Mackel Pierrilus earned a combined 14 points for UMES with a fourth place throw in the javelin (158'0) and a fifth place high jump finish (1.98m), He was also sixth in the triple jump (14.95m).
 
UMES had a trio of 800 meter runners finishing in the top ten in the race. Jalen Ridgeway was fifth (1:54.90) followed by Destiny Emuze's sixth place run (1:55.71) and David Martin seventh place finish (1:56.53).
 
Sergio Chofong competed in the men's decathlon and totaled a season best 4916 points in the event to earn an eighth place finish.
 
 
On the UMES women's side, seven athletes recorded top ten finishes with the combined team score of 30.5. Faithlyn Irving took silver in the triple jump with a mark of 12.96m. Teammate Jonysha Prucien was ninth in the event (12.19m). In the long jump, Prucien was seventh (5.74m) while Malea Sharps finished in ninth place (5.70m).
 
Lyee Sims medaled in the high jump with a third place height of 1.58m. Chloe Lucas also earned bronze with a third place run and a season best time of 54.15 in the 400 meter race. Mackenzi Evans was seventh in the 400 meter hurdles (1:03.08).
