NEW CASTLE, Delaware – The No. 18 Hawks wrapped up Day 1 of the Northeast Classic with a 2-3 record through five five-game Baker matches.
UMES finished with a total pinfall of 4,713 to put the team in 21st position heading into the second day.
Through the first day, the Hawks got off to a positive start with a 912-882 win against Bryant University. The second Baker match was a hotly contested affair with No. 1 Vanderbilt as the Commodores took the 1,010-952 win over UMES.
The Hawks dropped their next matchup against Molloy University, 966-952, before bouncing back with a win against a familiar MEAC opponent in Norfolk State. UMES secured a 911-749 win against Norfolk State before finishing out the day against Wichita State.
Against the Shockers, UMES put scored a 986, but could not overcome Wichita State's 1,142 pin total.
Day 2 will begin at 9:25 a.m. tomorrow, Saturday, with five traditional game matches.
The final day of competition will be at 8:25 a.m. on Sunday with three best 4-of-7 baker matches.
