NORFOLK, Virginia – A pair of Hawks have earned weekly MEAC honors for their play on the court. For the third time this season, freshman forward Kaliya Perry has been named the MEAC Rookie of the Week while senior guard Ashanti Lynch earned her first Defensive Player of the Week honors this season.
In addition to the pair of Hawks, Norfolk State guard Da'Brya Clark was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Player of the Week presented by Wells Fargo.
Lynch (G, 5-9, Sr., Hookerton, Nc.) registered 15 rebounds, two steals, and 28 points in the 68-61 overtime win against Coppin State to help the Hawks remain undefeated in conference play. She shot 50% (8-of-16) from the field and 91.% (11-12) from the free throw line. She also added two assists and two steals in the winning effort across 44 minutes played.
Perry (Fr., 6-0, F., Hampton, Va.) the freshman forward was the Hawks' second-leading scorer as UMES remained undefeated in MEAC play in a 68-61 overtime win against Coppin State. Perry scored 11 points on 44.4% (4-of-9) shooting. She added an assist while also pulling down six rebounds and blocking two shots in her eighth start for UMES.
Clark (G, 5-7, Jr., Baltimore, Md.) scored 30 points, setting a new Norfolk State single-game record with nine three-pointers, and added 11 rebounds, five assists, four steals, and two blocks in the 85-41 win over South Carolina State. Â
