The University of Maryland Eastern Shore has nominated thirty-two candidates for the 2004 Athletics Hall of Fame Induction, to be held during this year's Homecoming festivities the weekend of February 20th. As we draw nearer to the ceremony, we will continue to highlight several of these notable Hawks in this space. This article contains information about the following seven athletes:
Robin Petitt (Softball- Onancock, VA) was a four-year standout on the softball field for the Lady Hawks. Petitt, who ranked 10th nationally in hitting her junior season, also compiled a 47-25 career win-loss record as a pitcher. She is the all-time school leader in hits, RBIs, home runs and runs scored. Petitt was MEAC conference Player of the Year in 1995, and an all-MEAC selection in '95 and '96.
Doug Goodwin (Football) played fullback and offensive guard for the Hawks in the 1960's. Goodwin signed with the Buffalo Bills of the AFL in 1965.
Kim Hall (Baseball) was an outstanding baseball player who was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles during his junior season, and spent time in the minor leagues in Bluefield, WV and Miami, FL. Also a standout basketball player for three seasons at UMES, Hall came back and served as an assistant coach to John Bates during the Hawks' 1973'-74 NIT run.
Howard Lindsay (Track) was an Olympic track athlete for Antigua. At UMES, Lindsay had an outstanding career as a sprinter extraordinaire.
Paul Shuford (Football) was an integral member of the Hawk football team, who, as a defender, led Maryland State in tackles all four of his seasons.
