The Silver Spring, MD., native arrived at UMES following two seasons as the Director of Basketball Operations for the women's basketball team at American University, where she also served as the FCA (Fellowship of Christian Athletes) Advisor.
Before her time in Division I athletics, Garner honed her coaching skills at several prestigious high schools in the DMV area, including Our Lady of Good Counsel High School and The Academy of Holy Cross.
Garner began her higher education at Harford Community College, earning an Associate Degree in General Studies in 2014, and continued at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Media and Communication Studies in 2016.
As a player, Garner had an illustrious career. At Harford, she was the team captain and MVP, a Junior College All-American first-team selection, and a Player of the Year finalist, becoming the all-time leading scorer in Maryland Junior College history with 1,497 points. At UMBC, she maintained her high performance as team captain and MVP, earning America East second-team honors in 2015 and scoring 513 points during the 2014-15 season.
