Paris Vaughan was named the assistant track and field/cross country coach at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in July of 2025.
Vaughan previously coached at Lenoir-Rhyne. During his time at LR, Vaughan multiple conference champions including Philip Stoemne (indoor pole vault, heptathlon and decathlon), Melody Jones (100m hurdles), Sharonda Priester (400m hurdles), and Clarence McGill (400m hurdles).
Under Vaughan's guidance, Jones went on to an Indoor All-American finish (60m hurdles) while the men's team had two All-Americans in during the outdoor season in McGill (400m hurdles) and Jacob Wadswoth (decatholon). In addition to individual conference titles and honors, new school records were set in individually in the women's 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash. 400 meter dash, 400 meter hurdles, indoor pentathlon, outdoor heptathlon, decathlon, and long jump. He also developed the first ever LR athletes in the 400 meter dash, 4 x 400 meter relay and heptathlon athletes to advance to the national championships.
On the men's side, the team set new school marks in the 400 meter dash and hammer throw.
Prior to joining the coaching staff at LR, Vaughan coached at his Alma Mater, Alderson Broaddus, from 2019 to 2023. While at ABU, Vaughan coached six conference champions, including two in 2022 (800m indoor & outdoor) and three in 2023 (400m indoor & outdoor, hammer throw). In just four years, 95% of ABU's school records were broken by athletes under Vaughan's supervision.Â
As a student-athlete, Vaughan competed at Alderson Broaddus from 2015 to 2018, where he graduated with a Bachelors in Sport Management. He was a standout performer in multiple events, winning conference championships in the 110m hurdles (2016 & 2017), 400m hurdles (2016), 4x100m (2016), and the 4x400m (2017). Following his graduation, he competed for one season at Indiana (Pa.) University as a graduate student before entering the coaching world.
Vaughan is originally from Largo, Maryland. Coach Vaughn's coaching accomplishments and accolades include:
- Oversaw Jacob Parkinson qualify to the NCAA Cross Country National Championship.
- Oversaw school records broken in every sprint on the women’s side (100-400), while coaching the 400m record to be broken multiple times by 3 different women.Â
- Coached the 400mH record to be broken multiple times by Sharonda Priester
- Coach Melody Jones to an all-American finish at the indoor championships in the 60mH.
- Coached the Mike Karicher to a new men's pole vault school record (4.76m).
- Coached Melody Jones to the school record 60mH (8.33).
- Coached the men’s outdoor 400m school record to be broken by freshman Havyn Spain (dropping 2 seconds off his PR, running 46.67).Â
- Coached the women's 4x400 to a new school record (3:37.47).
- Oversaw the women's indoor long jump record be broken by two women.
- Oversaw the men's HJ record, both indoor and outdoor, get broken.
- Oversaw the men's hammer throw get broken.Â
- Oversaw the NCAA women’s indoor 200m record get shattered 2x by one of my athletes (Alexis Brown).
- Coached the first ever 400m, 4x400m, and heptathlete on the women’s side to nationals (in Lenoir-Rhyne history).
- 2025 indoor women’s team finished in 9th, and outdoor finished in 12th.
- Named Southeast Region Indoor and Outdoor Women's Coach Of The Year.
