Nick Novy has served as the Associate Athletics Director of External Affairs since May of 2023.

As the UMES Associate Athletics Director of External Affairs, Novy supports the mission and core values of the University and Department of Athletics with primary responsibilities of brand identity, marketing, media relations, and community relations while partnering with the Vice President of Athletics and Recreation to ensure all needs of the department are met. Novy oversees all communications and media efforts as it relates to coverage of all UMES athletic teams. During the 2023-2024 athletic season, Novy also served as the sport administrator for the UMES women's bowling team and baseball team. During the 2024-2025 season, Novy served as the sport administrator for the the UMES golf and baseball programs.


While at UMES, Novy has been taken pride in leading the efforts of rebranding and facility projects including:

  • Redesign of the Hytche Center main court
  • Signage, displays and graphics in the Hytche Center and recreation areas
  • Renovations to the Hawk softball and baseball fields


He has also played a key role in establishing the brand standards and positive exposure of the University's new logo and brand guidelines. Novy has also ushered in new standards for broadcasting all UMES home events in order to elevate the University to new levels of public notoriety.


Novy joined the Hawk Athletics staff with nearly 15 years of working in intercollegiate athletics.
 

Novy was Central State University's Athletics Communications Director since October of 2014. While at CSU, his primary responsibilities included media relations, the creation and dissemination of press releases, updating and maintaining the school's athletic website, managing the school's social media platforms, coordinating live streaming efforts of all home games, community relations, graphic design, statistics, record keeping, managing online ticket sales, creating game notes and print material, assisting with home game management, managing the athletics intern program as well as working closely with the Director of Athletics to ensure that all needs of the department were met.


Novy served as media liaison for all eleven of CSU's sports which include men's volleyball, women's volleyball, football, men's cross country, women's cross country, men's basketball, women's basketball, men's indoor track & field, women's indoor track & field, men's outdoor track & field and women's outdoor track & field.


During his tenure at CSU, the University experienced unprecedented popularity in the amount of fan interaction on the athletic department's website and social media pages. Under Novy's supervision and direction, the school launched the Marauder Sports Streaming Network, giving fans access to watch all CSU home games from the comfort of home. The school also partnered with the Gem City Sports Network to provide play-by-play announcing as well as pre-game and post-game coverage at all home athletic events. Novy also took the lead in the redesign of the Athletic Department's website. Novy has also built up the athletics promotional efforts by creating a new full-time multimedia coordinator position as well as increasing student involvement in order to produce and document video content and photo libraries.


Novy also assisted CSU's Division of Institutional Advancement and was responsible for the design and launch of CSUBelivers.com, which currently serves as an online donation site for the entire University.


Novy is originally from Detroit, Michigan and relocated to Cincinnati, Ohio to attend Xavier University. Graduating with a Bachelor's Degree in Sport Administration & Marketing, Novy worked for Palace Sports & Entertainment as part of their Brand Marketing team. Novy returned to Cincinnati in 2009 to take a position as the Sports Information Coordinator at Cincinnati State, a perennial NJCAA power in basketball, soccer and golf.


While at Cincinnati State, Novy worked with Athletic Directors Theresa Check and Tom Hathaway to drastically improve the perception of the program and increase the awareness of its accomplishments. In addition to his primary responsibilities as Cincinnati State's media liaison, Novy served as the primary contact and coordinator when Cincinnati State served as host to the 2014 NJCAA Region XII Basketball Tournament and the 2014 NJCAA Region XII Soccer Tournament. Nick also taught sport administration classes and grew the Athletic Internship & Co-Op program while at the college.

Owens, Deputy Athletic Director Alisha Tucker and the search committee for selecting me to serve as the UMES Associate Director of External Affairs. This position checked nearly every box I have as a professional," Novy said. "After 18 years living in Southwest Ohio and nearly 10 years of service to Central State University, I am appreciative of the CSU community for their support as I embark on this next step in my professional career. I look forward to working with the UMES coaches, student-athletes and support staff as we continue to develop our student-athletes into champions in competition, in the classroom, and in the community."


Novy is an active member of College Sports Communicators (formerly known as CoSIDA) and serves on the CSC Inclusion Committee. He is also a member of United States Basketball Writers' Association (USBWA) and the Football Writers' Association of America (FWAA). While at CSU, Novy served as a voting member for the NCAA Div. II D2SIDA Men's Basketball Top 25 Poll, the South Region D2SIDA Men's Basketball Div. II Poll and South Region D2SIDA Women's Basketball Div. II Poll. Since joining UMES, Novy has served on the MEAC's Hall of Fame voting committee and the TV and Broadcasting Committee in addition to various hiring committees for head coaches and leadership positions at UMES.
