Scott Fields has served as the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Assistant Athletics Director of Communications and Operations since September of 2024.

He joins UMES after working for two years with American University's Office of Athletics Communications as a graduate assistant and athletics communications assistant while earning a master's degree in sports analytics and management. During his time with American, he assisted in the coverage, curation and promotion of content for all 14 varsity athletic programs at the university through game day coverage and photography, as well as feature writing and statistical upkeep.
 
Prior to his time at American, Fields served as an operations coordinator for adult recreational sports and events company DC Fray in Washington, D.C. He managed responsibility for the daily oversight of equipment and playing while coordinating the fulfillment of player and referee needs for more than 140 sports leagues each of the four seasons offered by the company across Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and southern portions of Maryland.
 
For several years, Fields worked as a journalist in Virginia, Alabama and Tennessee.
 
In Virginia, he functioned as an editorial contributor for the Local News Now media group outlets ARLnow, FFXNow, Reston Now and Tysons Reporter. He provided news coverage of local and government entities as well as profile, feature, business and local development stories throughout Arlington and Fairfax counties.
 
Fields also served as the sports editor for the daily newspaper Opelika-Auburn News in Alabama from 2017 through 2019. During this time, he oversaw and edited the daily design, layout and copy of the sports section while managing a two-person sports team as well as multiple correspondents and freelancers. Coverage range extended to all Auburn University athletics and prep coverage that consisted of 20 high schools across six counties.
 
During his tenure in Alabama, he coordinated coverage of Auburn men's basketball's Final Four run and Auburn baseball's advancement in the College World Series in 2019. He also covered the Barbasol Championship as a part of the PGA Tour, the Symetra Tour's Zimmer Biomet Championship as a part of the LPGA developmental tour, and a women's golf NCAA Regional. He also served as a Heisman Trophy voter and a weekly guest host for the East Alabama High School Coaches Show on the iHeartRadio network.
 
While working for three years with The Daily Herald newspaper in Columbia, Tennessee, Fields served as the publication's prep sports editor, where he covered high school athletics in the three surrounding counties, Columbia State Community College and the NFL's Tennessee Titans. He also managed the print layout of the sports section for the daily paper while coordinating the maintenance of the publication's website and social media.

Fields earned a bachelor's in communications from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in 2012. During his time at UT, he also served as a student sports reporter for the university's print newspaper, The Daily Beacon, and the online publication, The Tennessee Journalist.
