Sedric Granger joined the full-time UMES Athletic Staff in June of 2024.

Sedric comes to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore with a multitude of experiences in media relations and sports broadcasting.

In the Spring of 2024, Granger served as an Athletics Assistant for UMES. While in this position, Granger organized and distributed the UMES tickets at the MEAC Basketball Tournament. In addition, he assisted with the updating of player bios, wrote game recaps, and helped fans find ticket packages for UMES events.

In the Summer of 2023, Granger served as the Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations for the Battle Creek Battle Jacks of the Northwoods Baseball League. While in Battle Creek, Michigan, Granger conducted pre- and post-game interviews with coaches and players, composed a preseason media guide, generated daily game notes through InDesign and Google Docs, produced feature stories, and recorded social media content. He served as the primary media contact for the Battle Jacks to the other broadcasters in the league as well as the local media. In addition, Granger provided play-by-play for all 31 Battle Creek home games and four Northwoods League playoff games on the Northwoods League Baseball Network and ESPN+.

In the Summer of 2022, Granger interned with the Southern Ohio Copperheads of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate Baseball League. While working for the Copperheads, he was responsible for composing news releases and written recaps, producing and broadcasting 33 games on YouTube, public address announcing 4 games, recording and editing a series of podcast episodes about the Copperheads, and volunteering in youth baseball camps. Most notably, Granger edited scouting videos of Copperhead players for the Toronto Blue Jays and wrote a press release for a story that got picked up by NBC4 WCMH-TV in Columbus, Ohio.

For his efforts, the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League selected Granger as the official writer for the 2022 GLSCL All Star Game.

Granger is originally from Columbus, Ohio and relocated to Athens, Ohio to attend Ohio University. Graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism News and Information with a Minor in Sports Management and a Podcasting Certificate, Granger made a huge impact in the Ohio University Athletic Department and in the local television and radio scene.

From Spring of 2021 until graduation, Granger worked with Ohio University as an on-air talent and production crew member. He broadcasted over 40 ESPN+ games for the Bobcats as a play-by-play broadcaster, sideline reporter, and color commentator in field hockey, soccer, basketball, wrestling, baseball, and softball. In addition, Granger worked over 20 additional games in production roles such as running audio, operating a camera, or producing. Granger also used his public speaking skills as a game day host for Ohio Football and Basketball games from 2022-2024. Lastly, Granger aided the Ohio Athletic Department by serving as the Director of Student Broadcasting. Granger’s responsibilities in this role included developing student broadcast talent through mentorship, scheduling practice calls, organizing weekly enrichment meetings, scheduling broadcast talent for Ohio University broadcasts on ESPN+ and YouTube, producing web streams for Ohio broadcasts through streamlabs, and promoting Ohio sporting events through producing social media content like player interviews and game previews.

Outside of athletics, Granger also served as the Resident Assistant for the Multicultural Living Experience at Ohio University and worked as the Multimedia Editor for the Southeast Ohio Magazine. For his impact on the school during his four years, Granger was named the Outstanding News and Information Senior of his graduating class.

During his college years, Granger found plenty of freelance work in sports outside of the university. Since February of 2024, Granger has freelance broadcasted games on MLB.com where he calls HBCU baseball classics and youth events. From 2022-2024, Granger worked with 97.3 FM / 970 WATH Radio Station where he was the radio voice of the Athens High School Bulldogs and also co-hosted a sports radio talk show. From 2021-2022, He worked at WOUB Public Media as a sports reporter for the Gridiron Glory and Hardwood Heroes high school sports shows.

Granger is an active member of the Black Sports Professionals (BSP) and the Sportscaster Talent Agency of America (STAA).

hard work that athletes put in every single day. I know that I will be able to achieve this goal in Princess Anne, Maryland. Whether through media relations, writing, broadcasting, or PA announcing, I am confident
that I can use my skills and experience to both be an asset to the UMES Athletic Department and to bring awareness to the wonderful athletes at this institution.”
