Coach Bengel comes to The University of Maryland Eastern Shore from Baltimore Maryland with more than 20 years of baseball coaching experience. Most recently, he was with Dulaney High school in Timonium, Maryland, where his staff averaged 17 wins per season over his six years. During that span his players were awarded three Baltimore County Pitchers of the Year.
Prior to Dulaney, he was the head junior varsity Coach at Calvert Hall College High School for eight years, winning seven Championships. He also spent a year as the Director of Baseball Operations and a varsity assistant coach. While at Calvert Hall he was the Director of Admissions for 18 years and taught the Junior/Senior Business Management Elective.
His baseball career started at Calvert Hall and was drafted out of high school by the Baltimore Orioles in 1983. Deciding to attend college instead, he attended The Citadel where he was a 4-year starter, received the Ace Award and was selected Second-Team All-Conference and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.Â
He has coached a number of summer baseball teams as well as been a Pitching Instructor for the Southern Maryland, Cal Ripken and Crab Claw Camps.
