PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) women's basketball team visited local elementary schools on Thursday, November 4 as part of a community service initiative designed to establish and strengthen relationships with area schools.

The Lady Hawks visited two Somerset County elementary schools, Princess Anne and Greenwood, on Thursday, November 4. The athletes had a question and answer session with students at both schools and also autographed posters for the faculty, students and staff. At Greenwood Elementary, the Lady Hawks participated in basketball drills with several students in addition to autographing posters and taking part in a question and answer session.

The event is the first of many community service initiatives planned by the Lady Hawks for the 2004-05 basketball campaign. The women open up their season on Wednesday, November 10 in an exhibition game against Wilmington College.
