UMES WOMEN'S BOWLING ROLLS ON OVER HOLIDAY BREAK

Princess Anne, MD — The University of Maryland Eastern Shore Women's Bowling team rolled in back to back tournaments over the Holidays, racking up nine wins and six losses to some quality competition.

The Lady Hawks opened the events in Stratford, N.J. at the Colgate Collegiate Invitational. MaryEtta Lewis rolled the high game, 268, and the high series, 756, to lead UMES to a 3-2 record. She also took home runner-up honors averaging a 221.22 and totaling 1,991 pins.

The recorded wins over North Carolina A&T State (1021-960), Morgan State (987-908), and Cheney (958-489). The Lady Hawks dropped matches to Sacred Heart (910-925) and defending National Runner-ups New Jersey City (877-905).

Sandra Maresca was also solid in the tournament rolling a 646 series and a high game of 226. Her outing earned her a 15th place finish. Erin Fagan pitched in with a high game of 197. In total pin fall the Lady Hawks finished fifth overall and third among varsity entries.

Later that day UMES was in Maple Shade, N.J. taking on a field at the NCAA Holiday Jamboree. The field, which contained only NCAA varsity schools, saw the Hawks take fifth place, 958 pins behind Farleigh Dickinson's 8,790. UMES went 5-4 in match play with a 3-1 record coming on Baker games and a 2-3 record in team games.

On the opening night of the NCAA Holiday Jamboree, the Hawks came in fresh off of bowling in the Colgate Collegiate Invitational and were led again by Lewis, who had a total pin fall of 968 in five games. She also had the high series of 607. Megan Raymond claimed high game honors with a 215.

After just bowling New Jersey City to close out the previous tournament the Hawks saw them again to open play on the 29th. The lost to the Knights of NJCU, 902-926. They followed that loss with two more, this time to Morgan State (873-900) and to Farleigh Dickinson (824-926). UMES rebounded to close out the team games with two wins over Cheney (804-465) and Howard (937-821).

On the first day the Lady Hawks opened with four wins in Baker play over Bowie State (537-486), St. Peter's (525-457), Delaware State (558-314) and Coppin State (522-411). They dropped their final match of the day to Sacred Heart (558-602).

UMES is back on the lanes at the end of the month in Las Vegas on the 29th and 30th bowling in the Brunswick Coca-Cola Classic. They stand at 81-18 on the season.
