Sophomore Latoya Bailey (Salisbury, MD/Bennett) got her second hit of the game in the next at bat, driving in Wilson to score the first run for the Lady Hawks. Two more RBI by Danielle White (Westover, MD/Washington) and Maribeth Kulynycz (Princess Anne, MD/Holly Grove Christian) pushed the UMES advantage to 3-0 before Danielle Summerour was able to close out the inning.

The Lady Eagles (0-14, 0-4 MEAC) got two hits in the seventh inning but could not convert, giving the Lady Hawks their first MEAC win of the season.

Coppin took an early lead in the second game, as Mia Willis and Christen Glascoe scored one run apiece to put the Lady Eagles up 2-0 at the bottom of the first inning.

UMES hit back-to-back singles in the fourth to score Jones and later capitalized on two Lady Eagle fielding errors to take a 3-2 lead. But Coppin was able to tie things up at the bottom of the inning as Jenny Harrell singled to right center, scoring Glascoe.

The Lady Hawks took the lead for good at the top of the seventh inning. Jenille Edwards (Brampton, Ontario, Canada/St. Thomas Aquinas) added the game winning run as she lined a single through the right side, plating White, who was walked earlier in the inning and moved to third on an error.

Marlee Johnson (Stouffville, Ontario, Canada/Newmarket) collected two hits in three at bats to lead UMES, while Harrell had two hits and a RBI to lead Coppin.

The Lady Hawks return home on Saturday, March 19, playing Howard in a doubleheader slated for 1:00pm.
