Baltimore, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Men and Women's Tennis Teams were shut out by the Bears of Morgan State University (MSU) in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) contest yesterday, April 5, 2005. Both teams fell by a score of 7-0.
The MSU Men (3-15, 2-7 MEAC) cruised past the Hawks (0-9, 0-9 MEAC) sweeping both the doubles and singles matches. All the singles matches wrapped up in straight sets despite solid outings from Christopher Clarke and Robin Schneider who both scored two points on their opponents falling 6-1, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-0 respectively. Shahan Sudusinghe also played well falling 6-1, 6-1.
The #2 double spot, Marcus Ngbea and Dia Campbell defeated the Hawk's Schneider and George Ray 8-4 in a tough fought battle. Joaquin Turley and Matthew Townes of Morgan won 8-2 over the team of William Miller and Sudusinghe.
On the women's side Morgan (4-14, 3-6 MEAC) swept the Hawks (0-9, 0-8 MEAC) in this MEAC match-up, 7-0. The Bears won all the singles matches in straight sets against UMES.
Haaveshe Sawyer was the only Lady Hawk to record a point as the Bears dominated the Hawks, winning every singles match 6-0, 6-0 with the exception of Sawyer's who fell 6-1, 6-0 in the #3 slot.
The doubles matches wrapped up quickly for MSU. All three matches were won 8-0.
The Hawks look to regroup as they take on Hampton in a home match Friday, April 8, 2005 at 1:00 p.m.
