PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks were not to be outdone by their male counterparts at the 2005 Lid Lifter Invitational. The ladies may have ran after the men's race finished but they took home a second place finish as they were paced by freshman Janeth Chelangat who came in second with a time of 21:32.

She wasn't the only Hawk to take home a top twelve finish as Sherita Harriott, 24:45 took sixth and Kathare Mundit, 25:47 was 22th.

Other Lady Hawks finishing the race included Rachel Midy in 14th, Sherie Brown in 16th, Marie Miller in 18th, Nicole McKenzie in 20th, Xiomara Okonkwo in 21st, Cierra Lane in 22nd and Ariana Forbes in 25th.

"This was another great race," said Head Coach Ernest Barrett. "It is the same as the men, you don't know what you are going to get in the first race but my runners fought and took home a solid second place finish."

Norfolk State won the women's race with a team score of 21, 28 points ahead of the host Hawks. Bowie State took third with 60 points.

Denisha Hudson won the race for the Spartans with a time of 19:56 while Gladys Thompson was third with a time of 22:44. LaToya Holmes was Bowie State's highest finisher in ninth place with a time of 25:30.

UMES hits the course again next weekend at Towson University.
