UMES (5-13, 2-6 MEAC) responded with a quick 8-0 run over the next two minutes, and a Jackson trey gave the Hawks a 12-4 lead with 16:40 remaining.

A Brooks lay-up gave the Hawks a double-digit lead with just over 13 minutes left. Tyson's 3-pointer at 8:01 pushed the Hawk advantage to 19 points, their largest of the night.

Morgan State cut the lead down to 11 points several times after that but UMES went into the break up 49-34, thanks in part to five first-half trey's by Jackson.

The Bears outscored the Hawks 15-to-9 to open the half and cut the lead down to single digits as a Gomes trey closed Morgan State to within nine at 12:23.

McLean's lay-up at 9:18 sparked a 15-3 run by the Bears and Morgan State got to within two of the lead at 2:46 off of a Timothy Berkley dunk.

However the Hawks sealed their win in the final minute of play from the free-throw line as they connected on 7-for-10 from the charity stripe, en route to a nine point victory over the Bears.

UMES will take on Coppin State in their next contest, battling the Eagles in a road contest on Monday, January 30 at 7:30 p.m.
