WASHINGTON D.C. - Jennifer Bien-Aime went 3 for 4 and drove in a two runs and Debbie Lee went 3-for-5 to help Howard University sweep University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES), 8-2 and 5-0 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference women's softball game at Banneker Stadium.
UMES jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in game one. The Lady Hawks managed to put two additional women on base before the Lady Bison put their defense to work retiring the next three batters.
After putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first, the Lady Bison put their offense in motion. scoring in the next four of five innings, two in the second, one in the third, two in the fifth and one in sixth. Howard held UMES scoreless over the next six innings eventually winning game one 8-2.
Jennifer Bien-Aime led the Lady Bison in game one going 2-for-2 with one RBI. Dale McNeal (11-11) pitched a complete game, going seven innings, allowing two runs off seven hits with 12 strikeouts.
Game two belonged solely to the Lady Bison. Howard scored two runs in the bottom of the first off a throwing error by the Lady Hawks catcher and an RBI single by Bien-Aime. The Lady Bison defense remained strong throughout the game, allowing only seven hits in 25 at bats. Howard put up three additional runs in the fourth inning to eventually defeat UMES 5-0.
Debbie Lee led the Lady Bison in game two going 2-for-3, with 2 runs and one RBI. Jillian Johnson (5-5) picked up the win in game two going seven innings and allowing seven hits, with three strike-outs.
