DRAGONS TAME HAWKS, 14-2 & 14-1

PRINCESS ANNE, MD - The Drexel Dragons picked up a pair of wins over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Lady Hawks, 14-2 and 14-1, in a non-conference softball doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Hawks Field.

UMES (2-13) added two runs to Drexel's five in the first inning of game one when starting pitcher Mishayla Truttman and first baseman Kristen Greenwood each plated in a run for the maroon and gray.

Sandi Wambold's left field double scored Molly Dacey and Victoria Hanks picked up an RBI in the third to give the Dragons two more runs. Christina Rodriguez capped a six run fourth inning for Drexel (8-4) when her right field double plated three runs. Rodriguez later crossed the plate herself on a passed ball to give the Dragons a 13-2 lead. Truttman walked in Amanda Hastings in the fifth for Drexel's 14th run of the game.

Truttman falls to 0-6 with the loss while Kristina Gaudier improves to 5-1 with the win. UMES got a 2-3 outing from Jaleesa Lewis and Kendra Saunders, while Truttman, Brooke Downey and Brittney Anderson each picked up a hit. Lewis and Saunders also finished the game with one run each.

Drexel was led by Dacey's 2-4, three run and two RBI performance.

Greenwood (2-7) gave up nine hits and five runs in the first five innings of game two before the Dragons opened things up in the top of the seventh. Wambold and Dacey each homered with Wambold plating two runs and Dacey plating three. Dacey's left field double earlier that inning scored Brianne Brown while Waldron scored Ashley Botelho on an error by Saunders. Brown's sac fly in her second at bat later plated Waldron.

The Lady Hawks picked up its only run in the sixth inning, when Saunders scored off a right field double by Truttman.

Saunders paced UMES in the second contest, finishing a perfect 1-1 with one run scored. Truttman was 1-3 with one RBI. Rodriquez finished 3-4 with one run for Drexel.

The Lady Hawks will return to action on Saturday with a non-conference doubleheader against Norfolk State at 1pm in Norfolk, Va.
