HOWARD SWEEPS SEASON SERIES WITH UMES

WASHINGTON D.C. - Dale McNeal and Christina McCoy threw shutouts to help Howard post 12-0 wins over the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) in a non-conference softball doubleheader at Banneker Field.

McNeal pitched all five innings of the first game and allowed only one hit and no walks while striking out seven batters. McCoy also went the distance in the second game and allowed three hits and two walks while fanning nine Lady Hawk batters.

Kristen Greenwood broke McNeal's quest for a perfect game in the first contest when she hit a line drive to right center in the top of the fifth. The senior from Bel Air, Maryland finished 1-2 to go along with a team high three assists.

HU (20-13) got 2-3 outings from McNeal, Tracy Javier and Sukai Curtis-Contreras. Javier and Aimee Macatangay combined for six hits and six RBI.

UMES (2-19) had eight errors in the second contest as Howard outhit the Hawks 11-3. Jaleesa Lewis and Shadawn Paige each finished 1-2 while freshman Brooke Downey went 1-3.

The Lady Hawks will return to action this weekend at the MEAC Roundup on April 13-15 in Lexington, South Carolina.
