Box Score

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) was out slugged on Wednesday in the final game of a three-game MEAC series against Norfolk State University (NSU), 12-1. The game, a make-up from an April 8th snow-out, saw dominant pitching from the Spartans Luke Foss who picked up his fifth win of the year, working eight innings and allowing all four UMES hits. The only Hawk run was unearned.

That run came in the fourth inning when Joel Gonzalez singled to right and reached second on an error by the right fielder Jerrod Farley. Justin Hoban would reach an another error following Gonzalez, this time by shortstop Moriba George that would allow Hoban to go to second and Gonzalez to score.

UMES would post no more runs and get only three more hits. One came in the sixth on a beautiful bunt by Tyler Love down the third base line and the other two in the seventh and eighth innings respectively. Kevin Hillenburg had the one in the seventh on a single to center and James Walls the one in the eighth, singling through the right side.

Ken Richardson would get the start on the mound for UMES and pick up the loss. He went seven innings, throwing over 130 pitches. He allowed 12 hits and seven earned runs.

Daniel Sterling replaced him the eight with a perfect inning and Carl Huber followed him in the ninth allowing three hits and two walks, leading to five runs, three earned.

Norfolk State jumped on the board early putting up a single run in the first, second and fourth innings and two in the third and seventh innings. They made it a double digit lead in the ninth.

Charles LaLane was 3-5 in the game leading the offense. NSU also hit two home runs in the contest. One came on a towering shot to left in the seventh off of the bat of Rocco Savage, his second of the year. That blast plated a pair of runs. He would go 2-5 with a run and the pair of RBI.

Juan Serrano was also 2-5 with a pair of runs in the contest. Moriba George and John Boyd III also had a pair of hits in the contest.

UMES heads to the University of Maryland tomorrow night for a 7:00 pm start in non-conference action.
