RALEIGH, N.C. - The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) Cheerleaders posted a solid finish recently at the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) Cheerleading Championships. They took third overall in the Co-Ed Division of the event, cementing their talent the Hawk faithful saw all season long at home events.
"I am extremely proud of the squad this year," said Head Coach Eboni Reavis. "They made me proud as the competed at the event. This journey has been rewarding for us all and we have learned so much from each other. The seniors on the squad really stepped up and I know that this season has laid some great ground work for the seasons to come."
UMES finished behind South Carolina State and Norfolk State University (NSU) in the Co-Ed Division. The Lady Bulldogs also took runner-up honors in the overall performance grouping. NSU was third in the overall competition.
The Lady Aggies of North Carolina A&T State took home top honors in the overall performance as well as the All-Girl Division. Winston-Salem State, who entered the MEAC Cheerleading Championship for the first time, placed second in the All-Girl Division, while Howard finished third.
The Lady Rams of Winston-Salem State won two of the three All-Star finishes. Janette Wallace won the competition, while teammate Deanna Walla placed second. Bethune-Cookman's Keona Evans rounded out the top three.
Fans can look forward to more exciting routines and more entertaining cheers next season when the cheerleaders take the floor at various athletic events.
