EDWARDS NAMED UMES ATHLETE OF THE WEEK

Sept. 30, 2008

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Coming off an impressive weekend, freshman Christine Edwards (Lakewood, Calif./ St. Joseph HS) was named the University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) female athlete of the week.

Edwards was phenomenal at the net for the 13-6 Lady Hawks, putting down 63 kills over the weekend. She currently leads the team with 224 kills and is second in aces with 33.

The Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) recognized Edwards' effort by voting her MEAC Rookie of the Week. This is the second time she has received the honor.

She was also named the Most Valuable Player at the Winston-Salem State University (WSSU) Lady Rams Invitational. Edwards finished with a tournament high 47 kills and dropped in 13 aces from behind the line, the second highest in the tournament.

The Lady Hawks will look for Edwards to build on this past weekend as they prepare for their first home matches of the season against Morgan State and Delaware State. Morgan (1-16) will be on October 3, and the much anticipated match-up against Delaware State (7-7) will be on October 5.
