UMES staff member Jathan DeBerry to serve as assistant coach for cross country and track & field program


PRINCESS ANNE, Md | Current University of Maryland Shore staff member Jathan DeBerry has been selected to join the cross country/track and field program as an assistant to head coach Sharlene Milwood-Lee.

DeBerry has served in various roles at the UMES since the Summer of 2023. In addition to being apart of the coaching staff, DeBerry serves Hawk athletics as the Director of Quality Control.


DeBerry originally came to UMES from the University of Central Missouri where he received his Master's of Science in Sport Management.  While attending Central Missouri, DeBerry interned with the Kansas City Mavericks, a professional hockey club where he served as a staff accountant and assisted with game-day operations as well as other duties. 


DeBerry received his Bachelor's degree from UNC-Pembroke in Business Administration with a concentration in finance.  A former student-athlete, DeBerry competed in track and field and wished to carry his experiences as a student-athlete into a career into athletics administration. 


DeBerry is from Leland, North Carolina and is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
