PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - Sophomore Christine Edwards (Lakewood, Calif.) has been named University of Maryland Eastern Shore Athlete of the Week for the period ending Oct. 11.

Edwards, an outside hitter on the women's volleyball team, helped lead the Hawks to a 2-0 week. UMES defeated Morgan State, 3-0, Tuesday and Delaware State, 3-1, Sunday in the first two MEAC matches of the season.

Edwards recorded 23 kills, nine digs, four aces and two blocks for the week. Her best individual performance came against the Hornets with a team-leading 13 kills along with three aces and four digs.

UMES (13-6, 2-0 MEAC) faces Hampton Friday (Oct. 16) at the Hytche Center at 6 p.m.
